Apple overtakes Dell- HP as student laptop choice

CNN reports -via a student-focused research firm called -Student Monitor, that Apple has replaced other major laptop manufacturers- including Dell- HP- Toshiba and Sony as the top consumer choice for students.
The research pointed out some stark facts which- not only sound unbelievable on the face of it but really highlight the Mac vs. PC-as well as the Mac vs. Windows -divide. Only last week Microsoft’s shares dipped of which now the wedge between- the consumer choices grows wider.
This simple -enough pie chart is causing the stir. Reproduced but showing the exact figures reported by the research firm, Apple takes first place, Dell in second-HP third and Sony , a major notebook and laptop manufacturer in a measly fifth place with as many percentage points.
Interestingly though-students using the Mac operating system one can assume according to these figures are still lagging behind Windows users with the vast majority- of the aforementioned manufacturers offering Microsoft’s operating system in their OEM bundle.
While Apple may be on top in terms of laptop consumer choice for students-Mac OS X is not.
Yahoo! Finance -reported analyst Trip Chowdhry’s comments which couldn’t come sooner since the student-focused Kin mobile devices – doomed from the beginning-only last month were withdrawn from sales.
Our research is indicating that Microsoft is unable to connect with the new generation of users. This could cause problems down the road when these students enter the work force and once again pick Macs over Windows.
According to this research- over the last six years-Dell laptops have been losing popularity with university students while HP laptops are low but consistent with the exception of a sharp rise in 2009. Apple’s MacBook range have increased exponentially and rocketed in 2008- with the Apple brand being continued by the launch of the iPhone and further Mac line-up upgrades.
The CNN report also pointed out some interesting statistics. Breaking it down further:
• More students use a laptop (83%) than a desktop (24%).
• 27% of the laptop users owned a Mac.
• 14% of the desktop owners used an iMac product- with 45% of those owning a Dell or HP desktop machine.
Even I’ve been tempted by Apple’s MacBook range- and that’s saying something.
One personal belief as to why Apple is becoming more popular with students is the multimedia-video and picture benefits many tech-studying students take advantage of. The academic discount offered by Apple also slashes a great chunk of the cost off the final price making a sturdy- reliable and stylish laptop only a little more expensive than a medium range non-Apple laptop.

The Vodafone 150- and Vodafone 250 both offer excellent voice and SMS services, as well as support for mobile payment services. The two devices share most specification features- the main differences between- them being that the Vodafone 250’s screen is both color and slightly larger- and it has an FM radio.
Launching -in the first instance in India -and six markets in Africa – The Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mozambique- Qatar- South Africa and Tanzania , it is in emerging markets such as these that the potential of the mobile phone as a powerful social enabler is most apparent.
To maximize the availability -of the handsets across countries with sizeable and isolated rural populations, the launches will be supported by an extensive logistics infrastructure- reaching deep rural segments where mobile penetration typically remains low.
In India, it is expected that device availability -will reach 60 percent of the population. The UN predicts that mobile ownership will reach 5bn in 2010- with most growth in the developing world.

By focusing on a custom-built feature set and packaging design , without any conciliation to user experience, quality or safety , and by successfully leveraging vendor and partner relationships along the supply chain- Vodafone and handset manufacturer- TCL have been able to meaningfully reduce the usual manufacturing costs and, therefore, the retail price.
Nokia has been planning to launch a $10 phone for a long time but the product has still not seen the light of the day.

Every so often when people do crazy things you just look at them and think–You’re crazy. You should be locked up- the key thrown away-and the meals to consist of only tofu.
Though there are times when people do crazy things and have such beautiful-persuasive clarifications that you can’t help but be deactivated to the point of wanting to be that crazy yourself.
Such is the case with Paul Stender, an Indianapolis man who composed with his friends at Indy Boys- Inc.-decided to equip a nice yellow school bus with an engine from a Phantom jet fighter so that it can get kids to school at more than 300mph over most speed limits.
While some might initially question why Stender and his friends should do somewhat that appears so patently useless- just one look at his logic and you’ll want to be driving that bus- which can screech to 367mph- without a crash helmet.
For the Telegraph quoted Stender as explanation his reason for creating a school bus that shoots 80 foot flames from its rear with these words- I built the bus for two reasons. The first is to amuse people since- come on, it’s a jet bus. Second is to keep kids off drugs. Jets are hot-drugs are not.
Spencer Pratt Calls Cops on Darlene Egelhoff- Heidi Montag’s “Psycho” Mom Forced Off Premises

On The Hills Tuesday night Spencer Pratt threatened to call the cops on Holly Montag if his wife’s sister didn’t leave his property. Idle threat? Apparently not!
Police were posted to Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag’s home just hours ago after the couple called for help saying Heidi’s mother was refusing to leave.
Heidi confirmed this to TMZ: My mom just showed up to the house unannounced .. after what she did to me on national TV I have no desire to see her.
Montag is mentioning to a recent episode of The Hills in which Darlene Egelhoff said point blank that she did not approve of her daughter’s plastic surgeries.
This week, Spencer claimed Darlene tried to rape Heidi emotionally” and called her “just a vagina” who brought Heidi into the world, but is not special.
Heidi notified her personal security team when her mom showed up pounding on the door. Darlene spoke with the police but has now left the premises.
She continues Her showing up is completely out of line and psychotic. I’m getting a restraining order against her. No arrests were made in the incident.

Officers arrived on the scene and advised the mother that since her daughter is an adult she doesn’t have to speak to the mom if she doesn’t want to. The mother said ‘fine no problem’ and left. There were no citations or arrests

Heidi Montag promises this isn’t the end of all the drama: I made it very clear that I want nothing to do with her in my life right now she tells People.
I’m sick to my stomach she would even do something like this. She needs to stay away from me. I’m planning on getting a restraining order against her.

Tiger Woods Divorce Being Hammered Out Quietly?

Tiger and Elin Woods’ divorce while not official yet is allegedly in the works and will be banged out hard and fast insert mandatory Joslyn James joke here.
Golfer and his estranged wife are trying to strike covenants on custody and division of assets. Once they do they’ll quietly and speedily file divorce papers.
This according to sources very familiar with the situation.
Not surprisingly the important thing for both Tiger and Elin Woods, aside from equitable sharing of their kids is keeping the terms of the divorce private.
Tiger Woods has a divorce lawyer team working on this counting West Palm Beach lawyer Thomas Sasser an expert in child custody in multiple jurisdictions.
His goals? Privacy and keeping his legal options open.
One of the options is to actually file for divorce in Sweden, where Elin wants to move with the kids. Tiger would have to submit to the jurisdiction of the court.
Wherever the divorce is filed, the plan is to take whatever events are essential to keep the custody and property settlement agreements out of court files.
The quicker and quieter the divorce the better.
Big issue rendering to insiders is that Tiger wants either custody or visitation and pledge that he can go to court and enforce the deal if Elin violates it.
Tiger wants the option to go to either a Swedish or American court to enforce whatsoever custody contract is in place should Elin Nordegren Woods break it.
As of right now the couple has not touched contract on any of the main issues don’t expect a huge press issue to be sent out when and if they do.

Now Kim Kardashian is hoping for the same result. She made this same fashion statement earlier in the week and responded to critics before they even had a chance to get vocal.
For some reason, high waisted jeans are always branded with this negative term and I think it’s kind of ridiculous,she blogged. Any woman who is proud of her curves should be able to flaunt them in high waisted jeans!!! I’m proud to rock the mom jeans.

Michelle Bombshell McGee said earlier this week that she has lots of colored friends. Might she have had an affair with a certain Cablinasian fella as well?
You know what they say. Why stop at one celebrity home-wrecking sex scandal? Bombshell McGee is now hinting that she may have slept with Tiger Woods.
Bombshell went on The Soscia Network” radio show on Philadelphia’s 106.1 FM this week and was asked if she would send Jesse James a thank-you card.
He bolstered her career after all and she’s had no shortage of publicity.
After she said she’s no lengthier in contact with Jesse James, the topic turned to Tiger Woods and how he must be so happy that James took the heat off him.
Jokingly asked if she would go there, she replied how you know I haven’t. Requested to elaborate Michelle Bombshell said I’m not checking or denying.
However I’m surprised no one’s picked up on that yet.
Uhh while it wouldn’t be the biggest stretch of all time to think that McGee was among the many Tiger Woods affairs we just don’t see it. Call us crazy.

Kesha to Play Profit Concert in Nashville

Kesha will put the dollar sign in her name to good use. Singer has broadcast a benefit concert on June 16 in Nashville. All proceeds from the event will go toward transformation her hometown, which has seen 21 deaths over the last couple weeks due to extreme flooding and whose flood damages may exceed $1 billion.
I am thrilled to announce that I will be playing a show to help benefit Nashville my hometown Ke$ha said. One hundred percent of the profits from ticket sales will go to help the victims of these devastating floods. Nashville helped shape me as an artist and as a person and my love for this city is beyond words.
I will continue to do anything I can to help rebuild this city and support the families and animals that have been affected by this disaster.
Sounds like Ke$ha is more than an uncommon dresser and great kisser. She has it in her to be a solid humanitarian as well.
Meanwhile, the Country Music Association announced yesterday that half the returns from the 2010 CMA Music Festival will go to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee for flood relief.
