Earthquake in turkey

March 8, 2010

World is not come out of great disaster of Haiti and earth quake hit chille and now its Turkey that is victime of another disaster of humanity.
The 6.0-magnitude quake, centred on the village of Basyurt in Elazig province, struck at 0432.It has been followed by more than 40 aftershocks.
People said the nearby village of Okcular had been almost destroyed and several others badly damaged.
A number of people were trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings, many of which were built of mud-bricks.
“Villages consisting mainly of mud-brick houses have been damaged, but we have minimal damage such as cracks in buildings made of cement or stone,” Elazig Governor Muammer Erol told CNN Turk. At least 17 of the dead came from the hillside village of Okcular, where up to 30 houses collapsed, rescuers said.
“The village is totally flattened,” Okcular’s administrator, Hasan Demirdag, told NTV.
Television footage from Okcular showed rescue workers and soldiers digging among the rubble of collapsed buildings as villagers looked on.
Ali Riza Ferhat, a resident, said he had been asleep in his home when the earthquake struck.
“I tried to get out of the door but it wouldn’t open. I came out of the window and started helping my neighbours,” he told NTV. “We removed six bodies.”
The nearby villages of Yukari Kanatli, Kayalik, Gocmezler and Yukari Demirci were also badly damaged and each reported several deaths.

“Everything has been knocked down – there is not a stone in place,” Yadin Apaydin, the administrator for Yukari Kanatli, told CNN Turk.
At least 50 people have been taken to hospital, officials say. Some were reportedly hurt during the panic after the first earthquake, when they jumped from windows or balconies.
Residents of the affected villages have been warned not to return to damaged homes while the area continues to be hit by aftershocks, the strongest of which have so far measured 5.1 and 5.5.
The government disaster management centre and Turkish Red Crescent have set up tents to help survivors cope with the harsh winter weather, and are also distributing food and blankets.
Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek and three other ministers have travelled to the earthquake zone to provide assistance. In Ankara, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan lamented the lack of earthquake-safe buildings and said he had ordered the start of a reconstruction project in the area.
“Mud-brick construction is undoubtedly a local tradition. But unfortunately, it has proved to have a heavy price,” he said.
A person visits village of Basyurt after the earthquake said its residents blamed the government for the destruction and loss of life.
“This is a seismic area. We’ve experienced so many earthquakes in the last 20 years, yet no measures have been taken to strengthen the buildings,” Volkan Durkal said.
“Most houses are not made with cement, they are not well-built and the people are not well-educated about what to do and where to take cover during an earthquake.”
Turkey is plagued by earthquakes – generally minor – because of its location on the North Anatolian fault line.
A 7.4-magnitude tremor which hit the western city of Izmit in August 1999 killed more than 17,000 people. poor quality buildings were also blamed for the high death toll then and there is still concern in Turkey’s largest city, where seismologists predict a major earthquake will occur within the next few decades.

Russia Georgia border reopen

December 24, 2009

Central Asian natural energy resources started a new great game in the region. The one show of this great game is took place two years back in August 2008, When Russia invaded in Georgia and crushed the Georgian troops. This is a show of power to threaten the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline. The pipeline stated from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil field in the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. It connects Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia and Ceyhan, a port on the south-eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey.
It is first time that Russia and Georgia reopen the border. The Kazbegi crossing is expected to reopen next March. It is the only crossing that does not go through the Russian-backed breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Russian Government has also confirmed that the border will reopen in the 1 March 2010.It is a key step towards stabilize the relation as diplomatic relation between two states had not been restored. It is a significant shift, especially for the many Georgian and Russian families separated by the conflict. There has been almost no contact between Moscow and Tbilisi since the war. Hostility between the Russian and Georgian governments is continuing. Russia’s Sergei Ivanovo on accused Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili of behaving like the Afghan Taliban, after he ordered the demolition of a Soviet-era war memorial.

China UK clash on Copenhagen Failure

December 22, 2009

Events and new prospective can affect existing rights or call for new ones. Status quo of human rights is changed with human progress. At the beginning only life, liberty, freedom of movement and equality before the law was consider human rights but now healthy and adequate environment is the basic human right. Rapid industrialization generates environmental issues and to counter environmental issues environmental politics, Green parties. Green peace, Friends of earth have emerged. These political, social and scientific movements compel developed and developing states to take combined action against environment issues. UNFCC C (united nation convention on climate change) signed In Rio de Janeiro conference of 1992 that provides platform for futures steps. The Kyoto Protocol was initially adopted on 11 December 1997 and entered into force on 16 February 2005.
The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (30 November 2009 – 11 December 2009) held to determine the strategy going forward after Kyoto. The goal is to enter into a binding global climate agreement that will apply to the period after 2012. Copenhagen summit ended without the 192 nations reaching a binding agreement. The states simply committed to “taking note” of a deal recognizing the need to limit temperature rises to 2C.Failure of Copenhagen is a major stroke for the environmental movements and setback for environmental initiatives.

China rejects climate allegations

China rejects climate allegations

British Labour politician and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband said that vast majority of states wanted legally binding treaty to protect the world but only 4 or 5 states want to cancel the accord. He added that china had vetoed two proposed agreements on global emission cuts despite that all developed and many developing states are agree on that. China respond vigorously that ED Miliband and others behind this editorial should complete their commitments with developing countries and avoid from activities that hinder the international community’s co-operation in coping with climate change. China accused that developed countries didn’t offer global emission cut in the green house gas and don’t offer economic help to other developing states that trying to cope with environmental issues.
It is not time to blame each other but to take joint action against this global issue. All stake holders should fulfill their obligations so that we can preserve and left healthy environment for our future generation. In the lust of power and domination we are destroying our home but it is the time of change and realization of our obligations. We appeal to our readers to take action and participate to compel all states to play positive role to preserve the environment.
