ELECTIONS NA-55:THE OBJECTIVE BEHINDS THE STRUGGLE?

February 23, 2010

The elections of NA-55 are on its way. The participants are in full bloom and using their best of energy to influence the masses and every now and then promising to bring a change. Millions of rupees have been spent on posters, panaflex and banners trying to show the innocence and determination in their faces and trying to create an illusionist atmosphere around the blameless masses that are blindly once again trusting in the promises made by the participants of the elections. The ordinary people who trust their leaders since the last 63 years will again end up gaining nothing.

The question is that what is this race and power struggle between participants of various parties actually for? What is the objective behind spending millions of rupees on something that is contingent in nature? If we go back and analyze to find the answer then the ambiguity gets over and things become clear that this struggle is for power, fame and popularity only. The driving force behind their behavior unfortunately is not Pakistan rather it is based on these temporary substances. The prestige and question of this country stands nowhere. The masses used by these people to get over the top, apparently are meant to be ignored afterwards. This race is for power and power is what it is all about. These rich participants call themselves the servants of this country whereas in reality it’s a business where they are spending an enormous amount of money with this strong belief that this investment would pay back more immensely.

This camouflage has n will always work effectively because of the unawareness of the majority of our population. This large portion of the population is still living in an imaginary world and has not stepped into the reality as yet. The vote is a power to choose the right person to govern the system but it has been wasted on whom it already has been wasted several times.
Do we Pakistanis not actually know the truth or we’re just ignoring it as we’re doing it since the last 63 years? Will we never think collectively about the betterment of our country? The vote in our hands if used rationally and sensibly would bring a change as the power is in our hands right now so lets think about it before we select the right person keeping in view the national interest of our country and not just self interest.

How does technology affect society today

February 22, 2010

Today, I will be discussing a hardcore issue with you and that is influence of technology on different classes of human society? How technology over the past century has changed life style .no body can deny this fact because today if am discussing a topic with you that is due to technology. Technology has affected our life style in every way from food, education, travel, luxry, safety, weapons, health status and there is an on going list.
Now question is that which major part of the society are the all benefits of technology and what is the impact of technology on their lives. Is that the business class, working class or middle class or the lower class?

Working class or the middle class consist of the major portion of the society. If this part of the society is blooming it results in good impact on the society because it show’s the proper circulation of money in the society and majority of the people falling in this class take great benefit  from technology how ever higher class enjoys all the juice of technology.
Technology has little or no use on lower class because there is not enough circulation of money in this particular class for example a lower class person in Asia earns between one to two dollars. This amount is hard enough if he or she has to feed or support his or her family luxury life style, medical attention even the proper food is out of reach.

Technology has played a big hand in creating poverty today it is very hard to get a job these days due to economic crisis  .man power has been replaced by machines. These days work of many people can easily be done by a single machine which ultimately resulted in loss of jobs. Business man are getting all the benefit from the advancement in the technology business man are getting all the benefit from the advancement in the technology.

If robots will take over all the jobs in every sector of life that will result in chaos and major economic crisis that world is facing now. World can never rise form this chaos if proper steps are not taken in time. If these problems are not accounted on time society will face problems like huger, theft warfare and many more. Then only solution to this problem is to create a balance between the use of man power and technology to create a balance in society.

Double standard of developed countries

February 21, 2010

As my routine, I was reading newspaper on the internet. Usually I read news from web named as www.globalissues.com, why it was worth mentioning because by naming only internet source seems untrustworthy for others. while reading this web I read a shocking news from African
poor country Nigeria although rich in natural resources that almost 350people were killed in ethnic conflict between Muslim and Christianity, and the next news was that thousands of people were displaced in Philippine and many were killed because of ethnic tension between Muslims and Philippine govt.these two news were shocking for me and I could not help to write and aware international community regarding this brutal act against muslim.nobody is taking serious , no statement came from leaders from developed world because this conflict is going against the muslim.muslim are treated as a worse nation in this age. What is this? I m asking from NGOs who claimed to protect the Human rights. If this tension is going on in Kosovo then NATO interfere because this is threatening the E.U not muslim.Look at the example of Somalia where people were struggling in the hands of Mogadishu group. Who rapidly is killing innocent people? No peacekeeping forces are protecting them because they are Muslim? If one incident in New york or Mumbai occurred where no more than 200people were killed still coming in the newspapers. Still international community is asking about those responsibles.Yet not they are controlling the present conflict. This is what called double standard against particular nation.Mugy gairoun sy gila nae per apnoun sy shikwa hai……Makeen khud hi makan k ujarny py tulley hain.buss itna hi likhun ga our Muslim community should wake up and unite itself as Juda-chirstainity is united against Muslims.

Rights of Women

February 17, 2010

Women rights are violated in almost all the societies with diverse patterns, which are mostly according to the traditions followed by the men of societies. It is mostly debated upon by women, men try to avoid it. The legal representation is also very rare as women are not allowed the freedom of thought and action. Women have due share of equal rights along men in all the religions but Islam is the only one which give them a complete framework of rights and responsibilities. However this framework is not mostly implemented in Islamic states. Other religions also deny many rights to women and women suffer there even more.
Women rights basically mean the rights or privileges given to women, for their protection and proper development. Women in this world are treated as inferior to men; this makes them a subordinate member of the society and its everyday issues and hence their rights are not well protected.  Women human rights movements, beginning in 1980s and 1990s, spread like a wildfire and made women more conscious about their lack of rights and dignity in the society. These rights were duly given by UN in its Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948.
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, that privileges, independence and justice should be applied to all humans. But women were marginalized from this open grant of rights due to the prejudiced attitude of men towards them. This created a reservation between the private and public rights. Private rights were those which were not under any regulation by the government and the public rights were regulated and guarded by them. Men play a critical role in society so their rights, like freedom of action and speech, were considered public and so they were regulated. But women rights were suppressed and compartmentalized into private rights and much regulation was not rendered.   Women rights violation occurring in the name of religion, culture and family were ignored by the state and international governing bodies and no legal action was made effective to protect womenfolk.
During the United Nations Decade for Women (1976-1985), women from many geographical, racial, religious, cultural, and class backgrounds considered actions to improve the status of women worldwide. The UN-sponsored Women Conferences help to plan out these efforts and women gradually began learning to bridge differences to create a global movement.   In looking at the human rights framework from the perspectives of women, women have shown how current human rights definitions and practices fail to account for the ways in which already recognized human rights abuses often affect women differently because of their gender. The core of their demands was to have an equal position of women in the society as it is their birthright and it was also declared by UN.
The concept of women’s human rights has opened the way for questions about the official lack of attention and general indifference to the discrimination that women and girls experienced around the world. Whether used in political lobbying, in legal cases, in mobilization, or in educational efforts, the idea of women’s human rights has been taken up across many boundaries and has helped in international networking and the creation of strategies for the progress of women.
However it took around thirty years for international community to commit for this issue and this commitment came in the face of CEDAW ( Convention to Eliminate all Forms of Discrimination Against Women) adopted by UN General Assembly in 1979. This bill put forward development in all those areas which needed attention from the state governments. This also encouraged the notions to eliminate gender discrimination in different states.  But the weak structure of many UN agencies and ineffective enforcement of agencies has been the major constraint in the coherence for the protection of women issues.  Cultural traditions in developing countries create the most stubborn obstacle to the essential steps towards women’s equality. The belief that girls should work in the home and in the fields rather than go to school, and the presumption that a woman acquires no right to property on marriage are deeply entrenched in many societies and the agencies have to respect a local tradition.   Legal issues to eradicate discrimination against women are most problematic in Islamic countries where elements of Sharia law governing the behavior of women are unchangeable.

Women Rights violations and role of NGOs

February 17, 2010

Women are not rendered much importance in the affairs of life, by men, in most regions of the world. This trend however is most notable in South Asia due to extended practices of male chauvinism and egoistic nature. South Asia is an important region in the world affairs nowadays. But one important part which has been continuously ignored is the women of this region.
South Asia can boast as being the home of the oldest civilizations of the world unfortunately all these nations are nowadays the poorest among the world, where among other social ills the human rights violations have deep roots.  In Asia, especially in South Asia women are stereotyped and are not recognized by their work in society, they are rather seen by their contribution towards their families.  According to Human Development Report in South Asia of 2000, the women of South Asia are only 33% contributors in the total official labor force. This situation had hardly improved in 2003 and the same situation faces us in 2009.
Women are essential part of any society and the progression of society greatly depends on it. No society can progress if they are not giving women their due share of responsibility and encouragement. However the fact remains that denial of the rights of the women has been often defended by many cultures and religions and as a result the whole society suffers.  But in the past few decades much work has been done for the empowerment, employment and development of women. NGOs, national and international, have played an important role in bringing up this growing awareness in the local masses.
Since ancient times women were treated with unfair ways and means. There was a hereditary bias practiced against the womenfolk in almost all the societies.  The status acquired by women in the modern world has witnessed a long trial of hurdles and opposition from men due to their command upon women to use them according to their own wishes. In ancient times of Greeks and Romans women were considered as the slaves of men, secondary in roles and consent to their fathers, brothers, husbands and sons. The first enlightment era for women was in the 622 AD, Constitution of Madina by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) who testified himself on the behalf of women and gave them legal rights and much better social status, such privileges were not available to them before Islam and even many years after Islam in different societies.
During middle Ages, from twelve century onwards men were still subservient to women even in Europe, though in 16 century many female literary figures came forward.  It was not until 18 century that women rights became the central political debate in England and France foreseeing that it was the faulty upbringing and education of women which created difference in expectations.   During 1800s women began to challenge, in United States and Britain, the set norms that did not allow women to have property on their own name once married and in 1848 and 1860 such statutes were passed which protected women against this bias.
The situation much altered with the twentieth century and the rapid development that came up after the world wars. During this era women all over the world started campaigning for a right of vote and other social and political rights and as a result in the late 19th century and beginning of the 20th century many new rights were legally entitled
For women.  The movement for women which expanded much more in the later centuries became famous as Feminism.
Another major development was seen in the form of UN in 1945, which allocated a proper world forum for women to struggle for their rights. UN announced the decade of 1975-1985 as women’ decade and much work was done through conferences; held in different parts of the world, where members of many states participated and showed their interest in eliminating gender and social bias towards women and to allocate them all kinds of social, political and individual freedom in their state constitutions. In 1979 Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women was adopted by United Nations General Assembly.
Main change that came with the twentieth century was that women came up in the professional life and adopted many new fields of education. This rather new development also reached and spread in the Third World regions like South Asia. As women started traveling on the path of empowerment they suffered many hurdles. This was the time when women activists came in to support and guide women in their journey. These activists stood up from different organizations, mostly non-governmental, and allowed all kind of assistance to women especially poor and deprived ones.
This research focuses on the status of women in these different South Asian states, namely, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Srilanka and Maldives and also on the role of different local and international NGOs in guiding women to gain success in society and eliminate the hurdles they face in bringing out women from the claws of male chauvinism.
